Animal Crossing New Horizons: How To Unlock The Sanrio Amiibo Card Villagers And Items

The cards let you decorate your island with Animal Crossing Sanrio items like beds, dressers, and desks, or dress up in incredibly cute Sanrio-themed clothing. The collection includes a total of six cards, each representing an iconic Sanrio character: Rilla the Monkey (Hello Kitty), Marty the Little (Bambomburin), Edoil the Sheep (Kiki and Laila), Sai the Elephant (Cinnamoreol), Chelsea the Goat (My Melody), and You can add these characters to your island using Toby the Rabbit (KeroKerobi) amiibo cards.

The much-coveted Animal Crossing Sanrio cards went on sale today at 9am EST on Target’s website and sold out in seconds. According to Twitter, some people thought they got stock of Hello Kitty cards through Target’s in-store pickup option, only to receive an error message after successfully adding the cards to cart.

Naturally, people who received Animal Crossing Sanrio cards have already started posting on eBay (opens in a new tab). The bag was listed at Target for $5.99, but is now selling for up to $333 on resale sites like eBay. Again, scalpers are here to ruin tomorrow. Polygon reports (opens in new tab) that they’ve contacted Nintendo about possible restocks, and confirm that some have gone to a local Target in person and received the cards.

Hello Kitty Sanrio Items (animal Crossing New Horizons), Video Gaming, Gaming Accessories, In Game Products On Carousell

Featuring various villager designs inspired by Sanrio characters, these cards were first introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s Welcome Amiibo Update and are limited compatible with New Horizons!

You can unlock Sanrio posters and all other amiibo posters by visiting Harvey Island and scanning the corresponding amiibo card on your Nintendo Switch. Amiibo figures and cards can be scanned by tapping the right control stick on Joy-Cons and Nintendo Switch Lite, or by tapping the Nintendo Switch logo on the Pro Controller.

To get to Harvey Island, go to the airport and talk to Wilbur at the ticket counter. You can choose Harvey Island as a destination when choosing where you want to travel! Note that you must first meet and talk to Harvey on your home island for this option to appear.

Once you open a Sanrio poster by scanning the corresponding character on Harvey’s Island, you can order a copy of the poster item at any time from the Nook Shopping menu at any Nook Stop terminal or, if you have one. Application is opened.

Animal Crossing Sanrio Items Sell Out In Seconds, Players Respond With Memes

Posters can be found in the Featured Products section of Nook Shopping under a new tab separate from the regular item list. If you ‘list’ an amiibo poster from another player, you can find and re-order it using the search function. This is accidental and may be fixed in a future update.

However, it’s definitely possible to get a friend with scanned amiibo cards to order and trade a copy of the Sanrio poster for you! When purchasing a poster you can use the “Order as Gift” function to have items sent directly to you from Nook Shopping.

Fun Fact: These poster designs are actually the artwork that came with the Sanrio Amiibo Cards packaging when they were released in Japan for Animal Crossing: New Leaf! You’ll notice that the posters poorly cover some elements that aren’t even in New Horizons, like the Kapp’n special character, and that’s why.

Unfortunately, the Sanrio inspired villagers introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf are not available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons at this time with the release of Sanrio Amiibo cards. The only content for these characters and amiibo cards are the previously mentioned posters.

What The Sanrio Villagers Should’ve Looked Like :>

However, at an event last year, Sanrio Villagers were also included in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on smartphones, giving hope that the collaboration between Sanrio and Nintendo is still alive.

With the lack of highly anticipated features in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, while we wait for future content updates, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Sanrio villagers cut the initial release and don’t arrive until later.

The inclusion of the posters is very interesting, indicating that Nintendo still has the right to include Sanrio content within Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Sanrio Animal Crossing Amiibo cards have unfortunately been out of print for years, so these cards can’t be found in mint condition anywhere at a reasonable price. If you’re interested, you can check out the current Animal Crossing Sanrio Amiibo card prices on eBay, but we warn you that they’re pretty outrageous.

Special Residents, Themed Items And More Come To Animal Crossing: New Horizons Via A Free Update On March 18th!

Since the prices are ridiculous, you have an alternative to look at. Some sellers on Etsy have made custom replicas of Sanrio cards and, importantly, they contain chips that allow the cards to function just like a real Sanrio amiibo card! This will allow you to get Sanrio posters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

If you’re interested in exploring this alternative option, here are some sellers on Etsy with listings for custom fanmade Animal Crossing Sanrio amiibo cards.

Normally we wouldn’t recommend this route as the legality and morality is a bit questionable, but since official cards have been out of print for so long that it’s reasonably impossible to buy them, we think it’s an obvious choice if you’re really into it. Like Sanrio Amiibo cards.

Hopefully Nintendo understands the need for these special Sanrio Amiibo cards and officially releases the new set soon, but until then these are the options we have to work with!
