Aquadrive 1500 Pool Pump

Aquadrive 1500 Pool Pump – I also have two 100W solar panels charging two 12V 105ah high cycle batteries connected in parallel and a 3000W pure sine wave inverter that I use in my camp.

As an experiment, I connected the pool pump’s power supply to the inverter. The pool pump worked perfectly but the inverter started beeping shortly after and I unplugged everything.

That 750W will run high and your battery can’t handle the amount of current.

There are special inverters for pumps, you may need to consider that, as well as a larger battery bank.

Could it be because you are using a battery? The panels won’t give you enough to run the pump itself, so the inverter will switch to another power source.

Click to expand … The size of the load probably causes the battery voltage to drop quite quickly and the inverter is likely to give you an indication of low battery voltage (but if in doubt – read the manual?).

As pointed out by @TheChamp, I would be a bit hesitant to run the pump at this setting on a regular basis.

If the main goal is to offset the electricity costs of the pool pump, a small grid-tied inverter might also be an option.

750 watts/12 volts = 62.5 amps you draw for your battery. You are exceeding the maximum constant capacity on your battery. don’t go to work

Saves you the hassle of killing batteries and simply installing a grid-tied solar system. No battery needed. You generate 1500 watts during the day and use that energy to run your washing machine, pool pump, etc. Anything over 1500 watts, the system will dip into ESKOM when it needs it

Your setup gives you 200 watts from the sun. The motor needs 750w. So an inverter takes from the battery – beyond their limit. Installation is not equipped for this.

If I can restore this to a question regarding the pool pump….. I have a 1.1kw pump. We have three stages – one that runs almost everything – lights, fridge, freezer plugs, and more. – this stage is linked to a 5kW 60A solar inverter (Victron) connected to 3200W solar panels. The next step activates the geyser (solar geyser) and half of the furnace while the other step activates the dishwasher and pool pump. The inverter system has 8 batteries (48V) which we use for backup in case of power failure.

My question is this… we often don’t use enough electricity at the solar activation stage to use all available power – i.e. waste. There is a phase-to-phase switching system – ie 2 phases in, 1 circuit out – so that during the day we can use the sun to run the pool pump and dishwasher, but at night the power is out. don’t use batteries for these? Not sure if that makes sense – happy to try and re-explain if needed…. I’ve been a bit frustrated running my pool pump for the past few months.

One day I turned on the pool pump and it made a humming noise and wouldn’t start. It is a Fasco Aquadrive 1100 or later that is at least 5 years old.

Hydro Unit Premium Line

I was able to pick up a used Fasco Aquadrive 1500 for $50 so decided to replace the 1100 rather than try and fix it specifically as my pool could do with a more powerful pump.

The pump worked fine for a couple of weeks, but was very low and one morning I turned it on and it wouldn’t start with the same noise!

Has anyone encountered this problem or can advise? I guess if it’s the capacitors, maybe need surge protection?

Since these pool pumps are no longer available, can I use a common capacitor instead?

When you turn on the pump and its hum, take a flat head screwdriver and turn the impeller by hand, there should be a flat slot on the outside of the pump housing where the impeller…it can get stuck and need a push. It’s on the side (bottom of each of your photos) but be careful, if it lights up it could knock the screwdriver out of your hand.

Thank. It’s just a blown capacitor in the end but can originate from a stuck propeller. Appreciate feedback.

It will depend on the make, model, and controller, the best you can do is look up the manual and see what options are available.

I hope you’ve found a solution, but if not my suggestions include sofa bed with desk nearby or shelf for bedside lamp, storage box/coffee table…

The pumping system should be the absolute last resort. It is unusual that councils do not require a holding tank to have a maximum PSD.
