The owner Anthea is a full time artist and works in her studio most of the week. Arrivals after 17:30 or earlier by prior arrangement only. They invited me to try The Portland Guest House in Cheltenham, a new project. I jumped at the chance to stay the night away from my trip to Cheltenham.
The guesthouse is located on Portland Street, close to the city center and I found the guesthouse easily. Check in was painless and they quickly showed me to my room and made me feel very welcome. Unfortunately for the dog, Portland wasn’t dog friendly, so he couldn’t make it through the night.

The room they gave me was interesting. It was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. It was one of their big rooms, which they made well, especially the bed. The room had flat screen TV and free wifi which was fast.
The bathroom was nice with a nice powerful shower and good toiletries including shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and a shower cap.

There was a kettle in the room to make tea or coffee in the room. They served it with a jar of delicious chocolate brownies, a nice touch.
They showed me the whole building with high quality rooms and different configurations. Portland has family rooms, two rooms for those who work away from home, and two other large rooms. They decorated them in a unique style with beautiful auction house furniture.
In the morning they serve breakfast to all guests in the breakfast room. I opted for their full English breakfast which went well with a few glasses of orange juice.
Breakfast consisted of bacon, sausage, egg, mushrooms, toast and beans. Other options include cereal, croissants and other Danish pastries. Breakfast set me up well for the day ahead, exploring more of Cheltenham, including a walk in nearby Pittville Park.
