Cessnock Veterinary Centre & Hospital Cessnock Nsw – The Cessnock Retired Miners’ Association, which helped build Cessnock Hospital, has held two meetings with the new hospital’s planning committee this year, but no one is guaranteeing the hospitals will be protected.
Association chairman Laurence Ellis said population growth in Cessnock and Corrie justified keeping the hospitals and warned the need for facilities would not end.

“The population is growing in Corrie and Cessnock, we are bringing a lot of young people to these areas and services close to the hospital are a necessity.
Poll: Doubt Over Future Of Cessnock And Kurri Kurri Hospitals
The planning committee has announced that every hospital in the region will be reviewed as part of its draft Clinical Health Services Plan, which assesses the needs of Hunter Valley residents.
But Mr Ellis said the process started last year and the community deserved to know the government’s plans now.
We want them to sign on the dotted line and say hospitals will be protected, but they won’t.
Hunter New England Health chief executive Michael DiRinzo said the project team had “several consultations with retired mining groups in Cessnock and Corrie Corrie”.
Cessnock And Maitland Forecast To Be Among The Fastest Growing Areas In The State
Mr Ellis said the consultation was limited and Cessnak and Corrie were excluded from the range of possible locations.
“The closest area we have is Gilliston Heights, and if they put it there, I wonder which side of the flood it’s going to be?” He said.
Cessnake representative Clayton Barr said residents often bombarded him with concerns about the hospitals, and he challenged Hunter New England Health to clarify its position.
“There is a strong emotional and historical attachment to these hospitals and they are not going to close without a fight,” Mr Barr said.

“The need for them is very real and the community is very open that they will not be happy if the hospitals are closed.
The Mercury asked Maitland’s representative, Robin Parker, for comment, but his office said he didn’t think Parker had anything to add and referred the article to Hunter New England Health.
DiRienzo said a draft clinical service plan and a preferred location for the hospital are being finalized.
Barr said there would be an uproar if the hospital was built in Maitland. He said the site on the Hunter Highway was the most logical option to serve the residents of Maitland, Kurr and Cessnock.

Many thanks to all at Cessnock Vet. Traveling in a caravan from Melbourne to Queensland with dear little Wooffy, a 14 year old rescue (family fault), we found out a few weeks ago that he had a large tumor on his liver and only months to live. He has been struggling for the last day or two and had a seizure last night. We called this morning, the Saturday of the long weekend, to see if you were booked. But you gave us a chance to get in so we could send our son over the rainbow bridge. Your staff is exceptional and we appreciate your sympathy during this sad time. Thanks a lot.
