Flinders Ports will welcome the largest cruise ship ever to visit Port Adelaide when Ovation of the Seas arrives at the Port Adelaide Terminal on Sunday 11 December. Accommodating more than 4,900 passengers on 16 guest decks, the luxury liner is a star attraction and will receive an official welcome to make its first visit to Adelaide. The arrival of Ovation of the Seas is part of an exciting year for the state’s cruise industry. The 2016-17 tourism season will see a record 52 cruise ships and more than 100,000 passengers and crew calling at South Australian ports.
“We are delighted that Royal Caribbean is bringing Ovation of the Seas to Adelaide and look forward to welcoming her to an official reception,” said Captain Carl Kavina, Director of Maritime Operations, Flinders Ports.
As part of a maritime tradition, Flinders Ports always presents a symbolic shield in the shape of a gate to the captain of every cruise ship arriving at one of the company’s ports for the first time.

“It is a special honor for us to officially welcome all new cruise ships visiting our ports,” said Captain Kavina.
Flinders Ports works with the South Australian Tourism Board and local volunteers to ensure passengers have the best embarkation and disembarkation experience when visiting the company’s South Australian ports. Port staff usually work from the arrival of a cruise ship to the beginning of the day with different teams working through the arrival and departure.
“The shipping industry is an important and developing industry for our company and our state. Port access is part of every passenger’s vacation, so it is important that we provide the highest level of service,” said Captain Kavina.
