A traditional washing machine has many moving parts. Their complexity also means that a lot can happen to them. The Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive consists of just three main parts: a small computer, a flexible agitator, and a simple direct drive motor. This means the washing machine can feel every load, use less water and run with fewer moving parts.
The SmartTouch control dial provides access to SmartDrive technology through 12 pre-programmed cycles: Towel, Normal, Heavy, Hand Wash, Sheets, Easy Iron, Large, Allergy, Quick, Bowl Clean, Rinse and Spin.
The direct drive motor accelerates to a maximum speed of 1100 rpm and a powerful 386G force, removing more water than other machines and reducing drying time. The automatic lint removal system means that lint is removed automatically and cleanly.
A small amount of warm frothy water is recirculated through the clothing with a cascading effect. Then after this “pre-soak” cold water is added and shaken to complete the wash. Eco-Active Wash saves energy, achieving a 4-star energy rating, but most importantly, provides better cleaning performance.

I washed regular clothes, towels, sheets, blankets and QS doonas. To be honest, I’m disappointed that the machine often gets out of balance and needs a wash to adjust in order to continue the cycle. I have found that without a central agitator, things do not go through a thorough wash and remain dirty. Now I would like to choose the stirrer model and not this one. I love Fisher & Paykel washing machines because my previous washer was 13 years old, unfortunately this washer doesn’t wash as well as a regular stirrer machine.

Despite using all the recommendations in the owner’s manual and advice from Fischer and Pikel to achieve the best wash, the clothes often dry out in places, the deodorant remains on the clothes, and the sheets do not wash well. The water level is set by the machine and, when checked in the middle of the wash, does not cover the clothes. We had to add water to the load with a bucket to cover the clothes. It’s an expensive car and it doesn’t work well. Don’t buy this.
Saints from Worst Machine Terrible rating: 1 out of 5. Not using enough water (which you can’t manually adjust), having to do a double wash every cycle to make sure the clothes are washed properly, a waste of energy and water!!! Many emails to F&P & called without success. Also the lack of a stirrer is a terrible feature, although I’m sure there won’t be one, doona sheets, covers come out either completely curled or in clumps so they’re not curled properly. Definitely recommend this car.

If you go to work and come home to wash what’s still on you, you can cry like me. Don’t waste money. F&P couldn’t resist saying that I didn’t follow the laundry instructions. I have a child who still wets the bed and needs to do about four loads a day. I’m so angry that I’m being talked into doing this.

My scarf was torn off the car they offered me one but he has the same problem would not recommend it at all as it doesn’t have a stirrer.

I took my second car from June of this year, turned it on when I pressed the start and there was a thud when I lifted the lid where the three parts sit in the car, they looked like they were flying off where the water entered the car. Rated 4 out of 5 by FinWisGirl for great and very quiet features. I have had this car for several years now and it has never let me down. I used to have an FP machine. It’s different without the center agitator, and I carefully load the machine. You have to make sure your load is evenly weighted as it will be out of balance, but I loaded 1 load of sheets and towels with no problem. I always prefer to have a full load to save energy and make sure there are at least 2 towels in every wash to keep it balanced. I love the features of the machine and the flexibility it gives me 🙂 I will buy another one in the future.
Rated 3 out of 5 by ogsie by CleanSmart. I have used the machine 3 times. Washes well, but the laundry gets lumpy and the machine becomes unbalanced, especially the sheets that get tangled in the fitted sheets. My F/P machine didn’t crumple clothes before, but now everything needs to be scrubbed.
