Mr Parry said: “After the annual report quarter the big retailers have shown that they are the employers who continue to cope with the COVID environment and outperform their retail peers.”

“Office supplies posted a 20.4 per cent increase in sales, good lads, up 11.2pc, Bunting for kids, 11.8pc, Adairs, 12.9pc, Beacon Lights, 2.6pc and – Bunnings, 13.9pc.” he added.

“Without the product markets due to the COVID-19, large shopping centers that sell good and mixed products … the base is clearly still needed”.

“On Friday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics confirmed sales growth of 3.2pc (seasonally adjusted) in July last month.
