Golden Bbq Fortitude Valley – When you enter, you can see the takeaway prices listed on the wall. Obviously they’re a little higher than what you’d normally find at Sunnybank, but the difference in quality is definitely worth a little more.
The environment and seating provided is very basic, but Golden BBQ chooses efficiency and speed over ambience. It was very busy today and we had to wait outside for a vacancy, I found it particularly impressive that the owner took the initiative to take our orders while we were waiting outside and the food was served as soon as we were seated. . One thing to note though is that water is on a self-serve basis.

All rice and dry noodles ordered are served with a complementary soup. Today’s soup was a Chinese vegetable soup, with leafy greens. It’s a refreshing start to a very meaty meal.

This is Roast Duck Rice. The portion of duck served was very generous, and I hear the texture of the rice and the sauce was good.
What I find particularly impressive about this BBQ pork is the lack of fat. As a (somewhat) health conscious person, when I see a strip of fat on my meat, I try to avoid it. My general experience with BBQ pork is that it has a fatty portion. I really liked how there was no BBQ pork at Golden BBQ.
It’s a double combo with dried noodles, two options are roast duck and roast pork. Portions were very generous.
Being a huge fan of noodles and soup, I got the stir-fried pork with noodles and soup. The noodles were a nice springy texture, neither over nor undercooked. I really like how they took the initiative to separate the fried meat from the soup. Few other restaurants I know of put crispy food in soup to make it soggy and less appealing, so I really applaud Golden BBQ for being able to do this without asking. The amount of pork served is probably double what you would expect to find at other places. The skin was very crispy, and the meat was tender and well flavored.

Overall I would say I really enjoy going to Golden BBQ, it offers generous portions of food at a consistent quality for a great price.
