Isuzu Dmax Wheels And Tyres – I am considering buying a second set of wheels with all terrain tires to complement the standard wheels with highway tires. Yes, it’s not economical and maybe a little silly, but it gives me the option to go off-road and keep road tires for general use.
Amazingly, when I visit the ROH and CSA websites, I can select my vehicle (Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain) and then the wheel capabilities are attractively listed. None of them meet the car’s wheel offset specifications. It seems strange.

So I call ROH and they explain that the offset will be different than the Isuzu in 33 because all aftermarket wheels are wider than standard. Interesting. He may be right.

What is more interesting is that the wheel offsets for the presented wheels are everywhere. Surprisingly, they are not necessarily the same for wheels of the same width. The car is 7.5 seconds. So I only looked at the aftermarket 8, the offset varies between these guys as well. (None in 33.)
I asked wheel brands how to choose the best offset that doesn’t hide the geometry. ‘Ask the retailer,’ I was told. How does the retailer know? So, I asked if they had a list for each vehicle specifying the correct offset for a given wheel width. No, apparently nothing was written. I believe the retailer will do something without referring to the manufacturer. Apparently, as long as the tire doesn’t fit the body, there’s no need to worry.
I called Tempe Tires, another big wheel and tire dealer, and they confirmed that no one sells wheels with the standard Isuzu offset, and on top of that, their wheels are offset all over the place. They suggested I could go with their wheels with an offset very close to the required 33, and they assured me the tires wouldn’t scrape or hit anything. This doesn’t seem right.
My question to you is, are people looking for macho wheels and using the wrong aftermarket wheels, thereby compromising their safety with junk geometry?

I started off clueless and the crazy attitudes of providers about compensation scared me. Something seems strange.
The magic number for the D-Max is 33, but ROH, for example, lists Isuzu D-Max wheels with offsets including 12, 25, 30, 35, and 47.
If someone chooses only one wheel, it looks like they might catch a 12 or a 47. Can both be correct? (Maybe warm to “below” 47?)
My basic observation about geometry is that “scrub offset” and “scrub radius” are important and change with offset changes.

If the wheel didn’t hit the body or the suspension, “Get a life!” I appreciate you considering this along with your background in engineering.
(The vast selection of aftermarket wheels, many of unknown brands and unknown quality, is amazing.)

If the OE dimension is 33, a 2-3mm variation is likely to make a negligible difference in performance.

7.5 inches is roughly 190mm, so the difference is less than two percent in any case. It’s doubtful you can measure such a difference in performance, unless you can feel one (ie – one that can be attributed to the new offset – obviously the tires will change).
The reason they don’t exactly match the factory offset (I suspect) is that it’s not economical to do so – so they’ve probably grabbed wheels with stud PCDs that fit the D-MAX and added them to their aftermarket D-MAX offerings. Given the low volumes they sell, it’s not worth repurposing.
If it’s really important to you, buy a set of factory alloys (expensive, but 33mm offset is guaranteed). Or you could get a friend with a wheel lathe to remove 2mm from the wheel mounting surface at the +35mm offset and produce your own 33mm offset (I’m not advising you to do this, just theorizing how to get the desired 33mm) .
