Isuzu Mu X Towing Capacity

Isuzu Mu X Towing Capacity – The new Isuzu MU-X offers much more than just a look. In fact, this well-cared-for vehicle has been completely removed. The main changes, and what should be of particular interest to Australian campers, are the vehicle’s increased tow and ball unloading capacity. But there is a catch…

The new MU-X went on sale in Australia a few months ago. It includes enhanced safety features including the sophisticated Intelligent Drive Assistance System (IDAS), first seen in the Isuzu D-MAX launched last year, new exterior lines and a revised interior. But it was undoubtedly the increased towing capacity that caught the attention of Australians who love towing caravans.

Isuzu Mu X Towing Capacity

The previous generation MU-X came with a towing capacity of 3000kg, 300kg allowed on the ball. Not the best in its category, but suitable for large caravans. But with Isuzu increasing the vehicle’s towing capacity to 3500kg, thanks to a new ladder frame chassis with upgraded coil spring suspension, it has opened up the MU-X to bigger, heavier and more luxurious caravans. Or has it? Let’s look at the numbers.

Isuzu’s New Mu X Has Arrived

The gross weight of the new MU-X has increased to 2,800 kg (2,700 kg for 2WD models). Isuzu has given the total weight of the vehicle as 5,900 kg. The MU-X’s curb or curb weight starts at 2035kg (entry-level 2WD LS-M), topping out at 2175kg for the top-spec LS-T 4×4.

A reception capacity of 3,500 kg is available across the range. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you can just tow, say, a 3,000kg caravan with 500kg of gear, water and gas, load the vehicle into a clearing and hit the road.

As always, it is important to take into account the gross weight of a tow vehicle. In the case of the new MU-X LS-T 4×4, the payload in the vehicle will be limited to 225 kg when coupled with a caravan of 3500 kg.

But all, in our opinion, is not lost. Limiting the weight of the van to approx. At 3300kg, which is still plenty for many high-spec Australian-made caravans, you’ll want something more practical to increase the payload in your vehicle.

Isuzu Reveals Details Of All New Mu X Suv

It is also worth pointing out that Isuzu guarantees the use of weight distribution for the new MU-X. In fact, a genuine Isuzu WDH is available with this model. This was not the case with the previous MU-X.

The 4JJ3-TCX 3L common-rail four-cylinder engine is, according to Isuzu, a further development of the previous 4JJ1-TC HI engine. It is the same engine that premiered in the new D-MAX last year.

It offers a 10kW and 20Nm increase in power and torque over the previous engine, with mid-range torque now producing 400Nm from 1400-3250rpm.

According to Isuzu, the engine produces 300Nm from just 1000rpm (just above idle) – this should appeal to four-wheelers who need a lot of low-end torque to spin up low-range hills.

Meanwhile, the fuel tank has been increased in size from 65L to 80L, which is another welcome change.

IDAS, defined by Isuzu as a comprehensive suite of safety and convenience features, is standard on all variants of the new MU-X.

A 3D stereo camera that can accurately detect and measure the distance, size, speed and depth of vehicles, pedestrians, etc. is the core of the system. According to Isuzu, this allows the vehicle to detect more people with less risk of misdiagnosis and take the necessary countermeasures to reduce the risk.

Autonomous emergency braking with turn assist, and a forward collision warning system, which intervenes when the vehicle detects certain hazards, are among the features. Calibrated for Australian roads, the Traffic Sign Recognition function scans the road for speed and other traffic signs and relays the information to a 4.2-inch screen in the cab.

Lane departure prevention, lane departure warning and emergency lane keeping systems will, depending on the conditions, either warn the driver when the vehicle is drifting out of the lane or actively steer the MU-X to the center of the lane over 60 Run at speed. km/h

Other safety features include eight airbags, post-collision braking, blind spot monitoring, anti-lock braking and more. The LS-T also has a tire pressure monitor.

While the original MU-X remains a solid, respectable vehicle, it hasn’t changed significantly since it was first launched on our shores.

The new vehicle looks to offer many other benefits apart from the ones mentioned here, including an overhauled interior. This looks to be an interesting development for Australian caravanners, despite the vehicle’s limited payload capacity when towed to a maximum of 3500kg.

The All New Isuzu Mu X: Touring …

Built on the same bones as the outgoing D-Max, the 2022 Isuzu MU-X promises to be more comfortable, more powerful and more capable than its popular predecessor.

Isuzu has announced a price hike in the MU-X range, due to increased production and shipping costs. We have updated the price list below.

It is also more expensive. Based on list price, the new MU-X will be at least $2,700 more expensive than its predecessor when it hits Australian showrooms on August 2, 2021, with some variants going up to $9,800.

Although more luxurious than before, the 2022 MU-X remains a rugged off-roader with a focus.

As well as its upgraded 3500kg braked towing capacity and larger 80L fuel tank, it gets a rear locking differential to take it more off-road like its D-Max sibling.

Power still comes from a 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine, albeit a heavily modified one compared to the engine in the current MU-X.

Shared with the D-Max, the 4JJ3-TCX engine delivers 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque, and features a new block, cylinder head, crankshaft and aluminum pistons. It also has a new intake system and a turbocharger for less lag.

It is mated to a revised Aisin six-speed automatic transmission as standard, designed to hunt less and be more decisive on the move.

The MU-X has a full range of active driver aids as standard across the range, as part of what Isuzu calls the IDAS package. Full list of control features in the security section below.

As for luxury? A full specification summary is included at the bottom of the page, but the new MU-X is available with even more luxury features than the D-Max, including heated seats and tire pressure monitoring.

Power in all 2022 Isuzu MU-X models comes from the same 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine as the D-Max ute, producing 140kW and 450Nm.

The 4×4 adds a switchable high- and low-range all-wheel drive, along with a locking rear differential. It is only automatic, like the 4×2 model.

Review: Isuzu Mu X

The 3.0-liter engine in the 2022 Isuzu MU-X uses 7.8L/100km on the combined cycle in 4×2 models, and a claimed 8.3L/100km on 4×4 models.

This makes it 25mm longer, 10mm wider and 35mm lower than the current model, with a 10mm longer wheelbase.

The car’s turning circle has improved from 11.6m to 11.4m, while its approach, departure and ramp-over angles have increased to 29.2, 26.4 and 23.1 degrees respectively.

Ground clearance is 230mm in LS-M models and 235mm in LS-U and LS-T forms. Weeding depth is 800 mm.

Isuzu Mu X: Everything We Know So Far

Boot space is 311L (+25L) with all three rows of seats in place, 1119L (+68L) with the third row folded, and 2138L (-24L) with all three rows flat.

However, it’s worth noting that the car’s overall combined mass means that a top-spec LS-T 4×4 towing a 3500kg trailer will only be able to carry 225kg of extra passengers and luggage.

As always, it pays to count your load before you hit the road with your family.

The MU-X has a five-star safety rating from ANCAP, based on tests conducted by the related D-Max in 2020.

We think we have the answer: Isuzu’s MU-X. It ranks well in terms of grant, towing capacity, payload and value for money
