Lindemans Estate Hunter Valley Weddings

Lindemans Estate Hunter Valley Weddings – I’ve been going through the To Be Blogged archives looking for weddings I’d like to share. One of the memorable weddings of 2019 was that of Steph and Corey in Ben Ann, Hunter Valley.

Formerly known as the Lindeman Estate, Ben Ian Pokolbin is a vineyard in the Hunter Valley wine region. Ben Ian is located 2 hours from Sydney and approximately 50 minutes west of Newcastle. Ben Ian is a beautiful hilltop property with east and west views, which is great from a photographers perspective (as you can maximize morning, afternoon and afternoon light).

Steph and Corey are getting ready nearby. I met Corey and his groomsmen at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley while Steph and her bridesmaids got ready at Cypress Lakes Resort. From Steph’s room, Ben Ian could be seen in the distance, as could the giant fig tree under which their ceremony would take place.

We arrived in Ben An around 2pm for the wedding ceremony. From the fig tree, guests have a wonderful 360° view of the vineyard and the surrounding landscape. Steph and Corey’s ceremony was beautiful, filled with heartfelt messages and vows. Guests enjoyed canapés with the couple under the fig tree until it was time to return to Ben Ann for a drink.

Ben Ian (formerly Lindeman Estate) was purchased by the McGuigan and Patterson families, returning the estate to its historic Hunter Valley roots. Beginning in 1843, the Lindemann family began growing vines on their estate Kevara and began exporting internationally in 1858.

Today, the cellar door hosts a variety of events, and the space is perfect for large crowds (Steph and Corey had about 200 people!).

As the guests made their way to the reception, we snapped some portraits with their bridal party under the fig trees as well as along the ridge that separated Ben Ian from the neighboring property. We shot among pine trees, state trails and houses. We also took a walk up the hill shooting vines, shooting some evening frames with industrial equipment on the back of the cellar door.

One of the great things about Ben Ian’s wedding is that the whole day can be in one place. There are so many varieties in Ben Ian that you don’t need to travel anywhere for a portrait.

The most memorable aspect for me of Steph and Corey’s Ben Ian wedding is that the reception venue is essentially a blank canvas. Steph and Corey’s florist arrived early in the morning to prepare the hall for the reception. I have never seen so many flowers packed from one delivery van. The process was so involved, I showed up to capture the flowers and staff in the dressing room before the bride got ready, and then shoot the pre-ceremony frame after the task was complete. As you can see in the pictures below – a massive change.

Steph and Corey also ordered a beautiful Queensberry album of their wedding photos. I delivered the album a few months after their wedding. Wrapped in royal blue leather, the album will be treasured by their new family for years to come.
