Old Queenslander Renovation Ideas – There is no doubt that this four-seat, 1916 classic Queenslander needed a little more love than the modifications it received in the 1950s and 60s. Fortunately, a Brisbane family is up to the task of seeing through the dilapidated finish and poor planning, ensuring the original quality of our home.

Why is this house? Amanda grew up in the neighborhood where her parents still live, and as a child she loved the house, which had been remodeled several times in the 1950s and 1960s. “When the property was sold, we were nervous about the scale of the project, but when it didn’t sell at auction, we made an offer and it was accepted,” he said. “We know it’s going to be a lot of work, especially with the baby and both working full-time, but we’re excited about the challenge.”

The result: “Removing some of the interior walls has created a more open plan with lots of natural light,” says Amanda. “Removing the faded finishes and restoring the original elements has also returned the house to its architectural integrity.”
Favorite aspect of the redesign? “Kitchen – because we choose every element, from drawer handles to light fixtures,” says Amanda. “This is our family’s favorite gathering place.”

A classic black and white scheme of Dulux Vivid White and Dulux Domino Black finishes define the white exterior.
The main changes included renovating the house, removing the exterior brick from the lower part and replacing it with wooden laths in keeping with the period of the house. ROOM A mirror insert in the fireplace in the ‘Richmond’ fireplace from Early Settlement reflects the space, helping to create the illusion of a larger space, as does the wall color: Dulux Vivid White.
This peaceful retreat is a far cry from the original interior. The bedroom is furnished with French provincial elements, including an upholstered bed found on Ebay and dressed in a ‘Nyponros’ duvet cover from Ikea.
