Earlier this year Sarah suffered a stroke. Stella spent two weeks in the hospital and a period of private nursing care before moving to Anderson.

“My husband died seven years ago. “Rambo the dog only stopped me, but my daughter took him,” he said.
Sarah said some people find it difficult to transition into aged care, but she is comfortable with the situation.
“I’m quite happy with that, and it’s a pleasure. There are people who are depressed, sad and disappointed. I call this (Stella Anderson) my extended family.
Sarah made her room and facility feel like home, beautifying it with flowers and plants. His bathroom, in particular, became famous in the Gibson Street complex.

She was busy weaving rugs for the extended family – an average of 2-3 per week – reading and socializing.
An 88-year-old man, who used to travel around Australia in a caravan, fell and injured his back and lost his driver’s license.
Dick’s wife Norma was already living at Joan Pinder, so the family and Dick decided ahead of time to go to a nursing home.
“I’m quite handy at home and I was coming to see Norman, so we called,” she said.

At first, Dick struggles with caring for the elderly, perhaps feeling that he doesn’t need to be there, but soon realizes that a helping hand is useful.
“Learn, it’s a different way of life. It’s part of life, you get older and it’s important to have support around you,” she said.
“Socially it’s really good, there’s always a bit of fun with some beer and cookies, but if you want to sit alone in your room for a few quiet hours, you can,” he said.
After several setbacks and heart problems, Dulcie Gibson returned to Bendigo from the Sunshine Coast.

He has been to two Bendigo Health aged care facilities – Carshalton House and now Stella Anderson – and has been impressed by the caring nature of the staff.
“They are very friendly. I feel comfortable and at home. The nurses really care about you, care about you and your problems, and care about you,” she said.
Now 85, the ‘Head Gardener’ at Stella Anderson keeps herself busy with the herb garden and flower beds throughout the property.
“I’m a gardener, I like to be outside in the veggie patch, watering it every two days and making sure it looks good. Gardening keeps me active and interested,” she said.
