The LATAM business class seat offers many convenient storage options. These include upper, lower and magazine storage compartments on the front seats, as well as an ottoman large enough to store a small duffel bag or daypack.

There are two tables nearby. The first looks like a small perch for a drink or tablet, folding from the center console…

…where the large tray table used for dining can be folded away from the side of the chair.

There is a large seatback entertainment screen and basic sound canceling headphones. Although there are many English movies, TV shows and box sets on offer, I found the entertainment options to be limited.

Air New Zealand Confident In Return Of Long Haul Travel With New York Flights

I was surprised to be given a boarding aid kit as these are not normally provided on trans-Tasman flights. The contents included socks, an eye mask, ear plugs and a pen (nice!).

As soon as I got up, the staff brought a tray of drinks. There was no champagne or sparkling wine on offer – surprisingly – so I opted for a glass of water.

About 30 minutes after departure, the staff brought menus and orders for food and drinks. The Sydney to Auckland flight includes a tray “snack” menu – a seasonal green salad served with one of two minis, followed by a dessert.

The wine list included three South American red wines, two whites and one (non-champagne) champagne. LATAM is also said to offer the regular Pisco Sour as the flagship in-flight cocktail. Due to the early flight departure, I didn’t choose one, but it will definitely be on the bucket list for next time!

I chose a marinated ham sandwich with Edam cheese as a main course. This was served with a mixed green salad garnished with pepitas.

Three thoughtful ingredients—Godiva chocolate, Himalayan salt, and Chilean salad dressing—helped enhance the dish’s presentation.

All in all it was a decent meal but perfect for a short crossing to Auckland.

After lunch I settled down to listen to music and look out over the Dreamliner bank of beautiful windows next to my seat – something I never got tired of!
