Townsville Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery – Felix Sim is a specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has completed medical and dental studies. He gained his undergraduate dental qualification from the University of Sydney in 2001 and spent several years working in general dental practice and a further two years in the UK. In 2006, Felix began specialized training in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2009 and specialist training in 2015, leading to the FRACDS Specialist (OMS) qualification. After completing his specialty training, he was selected for a highly competitive two-year subspecialty training in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the Head and Neck Institute in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Tracy Huntley is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has provided over 20 years of care to the Wyndham community. She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate surgical training at the University of Melbourne, training at the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and associated teaching hospitals. She spent several years working and training in the United Kingdom and completed her fellowship as part of the School of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Washington, Seattle.
Tracy specializes in surgical procedures such as third molar (wisdom) removal, complex extractions, oral pathology and dental implants with soft and hard tissue grafting. She also has an interest in the non-surgical (medical) aspects of oral and temporomandibular joint disease (jaw/facial joint pain).

A/Prof Subramaniam was born and raised in Perth, WA. He completed dentistry at the University of Western Australia and a medical degree at the University of Melbourne. After medical school, his specialty in oral and maxillofacial surgery (FRACDS OMS) was completed in Victoria, where he was awarded a gold medal by the prestigious Australian and New Zealand Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a gold medal for achieving the highest grade in a specialty examination.
He then spent another 2 years in subspecialty training in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction. During this time, he completed the UK and Ireland Specialty Examination through the Royal College of Surgeons, where he was once again awarded the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Gold Medal for achieving the highest exam grade across the UK and Ireland. making him the only surgeon to win the Australia/New Zealand and UK/Ireland medals.
After many years working overseas as an oral, maxillofacial and reconstructive surgeon, he returned home to Australia to enter public and private practice.

He is also appointed to the University of Melbourne and James Cook University in academic and clinical roles. A dental graduate from the University of Queensland, Ian worked briefly in private practice before attending rugby league while living in the south of France. He then played Rugby Union for the London Irish Club for 4 years.
Ian continued his dental career in England before entering a master’s program in oral surgery at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London. After completing his postgraduate studies and fellowship from the College of Surgeons in Ireland, Ian completed a further 18 months of training at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.
Ian returned to Australia in 1991 to complete two years of Advanced Medical Training in Adelaide, only to obtain a Medical Degree from the University of Adelaide. After graduating with a medical degree, he returned to Queensland to live on the Sunshine Coast where he completed his medical practice and established MIC – the Sunshine Coast’s first specialist oral and maxillofacial surgery practice.
Private Dental Care
Ian’s special interests in his field include Orthognathic Surgery; and offers 30 years of experience in placing dental implants. He also has an interest in oral and maxillofacial surgery; traveling to the Philippines and China as a volunteer surgeon to help less privileged children.
After graduating in dentistry from the University of Adelaide in 1992, Jim went into private practice in the state of Victoria for a year. He then returned to his home town of Hobart for two years, working as an oral surgery registrar and in private practice.
Jim returned to Adelaide to teach dental students and work in a public clinic. He then moved to the UK in 1997, working as a senior oral surgery house officer in Salisbury and Southampton.
In 1998, he began accreditation in oral surgery in New South Wales, before moving to Brisbane to complete a medical degree at the University of Queensland. After completing his internship in Townsville, Jim returned to Sydney to obtain his fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2006.

Nick is an Australian-trained, state-of-the-art specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon who completed degrees in medicine and dentistry before undertaking advanced surgical training. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dedicated to research and continuing education, Nick currently supervises two PhD students in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has published numerous research articles and presented at national and international conferences, particularly on the oral health of head and neck cancer patients, dental implant rehabilitation and facial trauma management.
