DERFIELD, ill January 12 2016 // –No wonder Suntory Whiskey’s Yamazaki® Sherry Cask 2013 was named “World Whiskey of the Year” in Jim Murray’s 2015 Whiskey Bible. However, sherry cask whiskey has been a key part of Suntory’s whiskey portfolio since 1924, a year after the distillery was founded. Japanese whiskey founder Shinjiro Tori began creating his own whiskey using sherry casks imported from wineries in southern Spain to blend his famous Akadama sweet liqueur. The sherry cask was therefore the first cask used by Suntory whiskey and plays an important role in the origins of Japanese whisky.
